I’ve grown up eating yogurt. I used to get the fruit-on-the-bottom kind; then, my dad and I would eat the plain yogurt off the top in order to enjoy the sweet fruit at the bottom on its own. Sigh.. pleasant memories.
Even an adult, I still enjoy my yogurt. However, the idea of eating that a sugar-laden, high-calorie 6 ounce “snack” for breakfast lowers the appeal for me. Discovering Siggi’s Yogurt has been a joy!

Pros: Yogurt is yogurt…right? Well, I have to say there’s nothing particularly attractive about Siggi’s yogurt except to say that it reminds me a lot in appearance (when you first open the package) of the older style fruit-on-the-bottom yogurts. The top of the package is a little soupier, but nothing a little stirring doesn’t remix.
Cons: One of my biggest quandaries with this brand is the fact that whether the flavor is grapefruit, orange and ginger, or pomegranate and passion fruit, the yogurt is a greyish white. There’s not suprise fruit on the bottom and not a lot of inclusion of chunks of fruit. The color is almost a little sterile, making me wonder how exactly they’re flavored.
Pros: I really love the natural thickness and taste of these yogurts. They really taste like the fruit that flavors them. Of course, if you don’t like the bitter taste of grapefruit I’d avoid that flavor. However, I love that there is a freshness about the taste and a really natural taste for each flavor.
Cons: The yogurts only contain about 10 grams of sugar. Of course, this is much healthier for us than a very sugary and very processed yogurt. However, there does seem to be a lack of sweetness in the yogurt, which is a little disappointing. Maybe I just need to retrain my taste buds.
Pros: I really love the thickness of these natural Icelandic yogurts. 🙂 I love that they are moist but not runny and easy to eat!
Cons: Unfortunately, these yogurts have a little grainier texture than the more processed yogurts I’m used to. Althought I list this under a con simply because it’s an unexpected and somewhat learned texture, I have to say I like it more and more. Thicker and more substantial, this yogurt offers more than a fruit-sweetened pudding!
What I Love
I really appreciate the natural aspects of this yogurt brand. Healthy, low in calories and sugar, and full of essential vitamins (20% of the daily value of calcium needed!) and natural flavoring, I am in love with the way that Siggi’s has revolutionized modern yogurt. They’re locally made, so I really want to support this company as well.
What I’d Improve
I would say the biggest downfall of this company is the choice of flavors. Most people I know are not going to be in love with an orange and ginger yogurt that’s stronger on the ginger than the orange. Grapefruit is a little strong and not sweet enough as well. However, with some additional flavors, I really think that Siggi’s can widen their customer base, offering healthy alternatives to current yogurt options with high sugar contents and little nutrional values.
