Parenting: A Great Privilege and Responsibility

I have to be honest. I’m pretty excited to be a parent one day. I hope…. I pray we have all boys. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve babysat some awesome girls. I know awesome girls. I just pray that all my tolerance of belching, farting, dirt, snakes, and “gross” things is put to good use so I’m not forced to play with dolls and Barbies. Now that’s truly gross.

Sometimes I’m pretty sure I know what kind of little boy Adam was and can foretell what  kind of little boy we would have if he were to be just like his father. I tell Adam that when I’m trying to wake him up from a nap, and his eyes are groggy, and he’s acknowledging me with his lips but he’s really half-asleep and wanting to be left alone. I can imagine his face 3-yrs old and pouty after a nap, and yes, it excites me.

Parenthood has me smiling ear-to-ear when I think of it that way. However, I’m rather sobered when I think of the responsibility and life-long commitment it is.  Am I ready?

…and to answer the question on all your minds (since I’ve yet to answer it this week): NO. I’m not pregnant.

Today I read an article about homeschooling. Well, it was about parenting really and some common mistakes homeschooling parents make.  More specifically, it’s about some mistakes concerned Christian parents make as they “raise up [their] child in the way he should go.”

It was breath of fresh air.

Don’t get me wrong; we’re planning homeschooling. As two homeschool graduates, we see the pro’s of this form of education. However, we also see the con’s.  With prayer, we attempt to tackle this task and do a great job at raising up our kid(s) for God’s glory.

Whether you homeschool or not, if you desire to raise your children for the Lord and to have lasting, real relationships with them after they’re grown, please take a careful read of the article linked below. The principles of God’s Word found within are life-changing!
